[FILM: Nanook of the North, 1922]
Often called the first feature-length documentary: an Inuk hunter and his family in the Canadian Arctic. It is also famously staged in places — Flaherty asked his subjects to use older methods — which makes it a fascinating argument about what "documentary" means.
Watch for
- The igloo-building scene, built partly cut away so the camera could see inside.
